The short answer
ChatGPT can now answer with more than text. Since early October, answers in the Chat tab can include side-by-side comparisons, diagrams and small tools you use in the conversation, such as calculators, on every plan including Free. Separately, ChatGPT Slides builds a presentation from a conversation, your files or an outline, and on the web exports it to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides, but only for Pro, Business and Enterprise users with access to Space. Check an interactive answer before you rely on it.
Why it is worth fixing
A wall of text is hard to act on. When ‘which of these two options suits us?’ comes back as a side-by-side comparison, or a question about time spent comes back as a calculator you can adjust, it is quicker to see what matters and easier to share with the team. Slides matters to anyone who rebuilds the same client or market-update deck every month.
Step by step
Ask for a side-by-side comparison
ChatGPT picks the format itself, but you can ask for one. Try: ‘Compare these two software options side by side: what each does, what it needs from us, and what it leaves out.’ Paste the details of both, so it works from your facts rather than general knowledge.
Ask for a diagram
Try: ‘Draw our process from a new vacancy to a placed candidate as a diagram, and mark where work waits for someone.’ Describe your steps in plain words first. A diagram is a quick way to check that everyone in the team describes the process the same way.
Ask for a calculator
Try: ‘Build a calculator where I enter how many minutes a task takes and how often we do it, and it shows the hours over a year.’ You can change the inputs in the chat. Use it for rough sums, and run the checks at the end of this guide before you rely on the answer.
Know which plan gets which model
Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise use the version of OpenAI’s latest model it calls Sol; Free and Go use one called Luna. On Enterprise, your workspace admin decides whether interactive answers are switched on. If you choose the Pro reasoning option, you won’t get interactive answers, because that option runs on a different model that does not support them.
Build a deck with ChatGPT Slides
In ChatGPT’s Work area, ask it to create a presentation in Space. Start from a conversation, your files or an outline, such as your notes from a client meeting. To keep your house style, share an old deck as the example: OpenAI says it guides the style and layout. Then edit text, images, shapes and charts yourself or ask ChatGPT to change them, and teammates can edit and comment on the same deck.
Export it, then check it
On the web, export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides. In the desktop app, you can open the deck in PowerPoint or Keynote if they are installed. Open the exported file and check the layout, fonts and charts before it goes to a client.
Check who gets Slides
Slides is rolling out to eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise users with Space access, on the web and in the desktop app. OpenAI does not list it for Free, Go or Plus. If you are on an eligible plan and don’t see it, it may not have reached your account yet.
Check an interactive answer before you rely on it
Test a calculator with numbers you can work out yourself. Ask ChatGPT to show the formula and the assumptions behind any figure. Check each fact in a comparison against the source you gave it. And don’t paste candidate or client personal details into ChatGPT unless your business has agreed to use it for that.
Checklist
- You know which plan your team is on, and which model that gives you
- Your prompt names the format you want: comparison, diagram or calculator
- Every calculator has been tested with numbers you can check by hand
- Facts in a comparison come from your own sources
- You have checked that your account has Slides before planning a deck around it
- Exported decks are opened and checked before they are sent
When it is worth getting help
For most teams, trying these features on real work for a week is enough to learn where they help. It is worth getting help when the same report or deck is rebuilt from your systems every month, because then the hard part is getting the data out reliably and checking it, not the slides.
Rec Int. builds MI reporting and dashboards for UK recruitment agencies, from the exports they already have, on each client’s own template and checked before it goes.
Questions people ask
Do Free users get interactive answers?
Yes. OpenAI rolled them out to Free and Go the day after the paid plans, using the Luna version of its latest model.
Can ChatGPT Slides follow our existing template?
You can share an old deck as the example. OpenAI describes it as a guide to the style and layout, so check the result against your template before you send it.
Can interactive answers be wrong?
Yes. A calculator or comparison looks finished, but it is only as right as the facts and formula behind it, so check it the way you would check a spreadsheet someone else built.
