The short answer

You can now build a small interactive tool in the Gemini app, such as a checklist or a quiz, and send it straight to Google Sites. Google says choosing Export, then Google Sites, turns it into a new private site draft that stays interactive, which you can edit, publish and share. You need Google Sites turned on for your account and permission to create and edit sites. Test every answer the tool gives before anyone else sees it.

Why it is worth fixing

Agencies repeat the same checks all day: is this brief complete, is this candidate ready to put forward, has every interview stage been agreed? A small tool that walks someone through those questions saves explaining them every time, and now it can sit on a web page you control without a developer. Google says the export works for Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers and personal Google accounts that have the Gemini app.

Step by step

  1. Pick one small tool to start with

Three ideas that suit an agency: a job-brief checker that shows a client what is missing before the search starts; an interview-stage checklist that confirms who interviews, in what order and how feedback comes back; and a candidate-ready checklist your consultants run before putting someone forward. Each is a short set of yes-or-no questions, which these tools handle well.

  2. Open Canvas and describe the tool

Go to gemini.google.com and choose Canvas from the options below the text box. Then describe what you want in plain words, for example: ‘Build an interactive checklist that scores a client’s job brief. Ask whether the salary is stated, the location and working pattern are clear, the must-have skills are listed, and the interview stages and decision-makers are named. Show a score and list what is missing.’

  3. Refine it until it does one job well

Gemini builds the tool in the Canvas panel, where you can try it straight away. Ask for changes in plain words, such as ‘make the questions shorter’ or ‘use navy and white’. Keep it to one job: a tool that checks a brief is easier to trust than one that tries to run your whole process.

  4. Export it to Google Sites

On your app in the Gemini app, select Export, then Google Sites. Google says it opens as a new, private site draft and stays fully interactive, so you can add a heading, your logo and a short explanation around it before anyone sees it.

  5. Check what your account allows

The export only works if Google Sites is turned on for you and you are allowed to create and edit sites. On a work account your administrator controls that, and Google says sites made this way follow your organisation’s existing Sites and Drive policies. If the option is missing, ask your administrator rather than looking for a way round it.

  6. Test every answer it gives

Work through the tool as a user would, with a good brief, a poor one and a half-finished one. Check each score and message against what you would say yourself. Gemini wrote the logic, so treat it as a draft until you have tested it, and keep candidates’ personal details out of it: a checklist does not need them.

  7. Publish, and choose who can see it

In Google Sites, choose Publish and give the site a web address. Under Share, you can make the published site public or limit it to people you name, and a work account may offer more options. Share the link with clients or your team, and update the draft whenever your process changes.

Checklist

  • The tool does one job, and you can say what it is in a sentence
  • Google Sites is on for your account and you can create sites
  • Every score and message has been tested with real examples
  • The tool asks for no personal details about candidates
  • The published site’s audience is set the way you intend
  • Someone owns the tool and updates it when your process changes

When it is worth getting help

A simple checklist page is well within reach of anyone in your team, and it is a good first step into building with AI. It is worth getting help when the tool needs to read from or write to your own systems, such as your CRM, when it must handle candidates’ personal details, or when you want the answers it collects to feed a process rather than sit on a page.

Rec Int. builds automation for UK recruitment agencies, around the systems they already run.

Questions people ask

Do I need a paid Google account?

No. Google says the export works for Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers and personal Google accounts with the Gemini app, as long as Google Sites is on for you and you can create sites.

Can I share the tool without Google Sites?

Yes. Canvas can also make a public share link for the app. Google’s help page says anyone with that link can view and edit data associated with the app, so keep personal details out of it.
